About Us

Children who grow up with an incarcerated family member are 3–6 times more likely to become incarcerated themselves. Yet few programs exist to support them — and Amazing Grace is the only one in Massachusetts.

We believe we can heal some of the trauma and hurt children with an incarcerated family member experience by building stable, care-filled relationships with adult mentors and engaging these young people in self-esteem building activities with peers that share the experience of a family member’s incarceration. We believe participation in our pathway of programs — summer camp experiences and activities their families often cannot provide — will lead these children to choose life-giving rather than risk-making decisions that could ultimately lead to incarceration for themselves. 

Amazing Grace is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Although founded through an Episcopal community and supported by many faith-motivated people, Amazing Grace is not a faith-based nor faith-oriented organization. Our programs do not include religious content in any form.

We welcome and celebrate all children impacted by incarceration and their families, as well as mentors to support them, without regard to race, color, culture, ethnicity, beliefs, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, economic status, education, or other federal, state or local protected class. We work to cultivate a culture of inclusion, curiosity, and openness that inspires us to try new things and support each other as we do so.

A New Partnership

Amazing Grace at The Bridge Center
We are proud to announce a new collaboration with the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, which now provides our program with office space at The Bridge Center in Barnstable Village. As part of Sheriff Donna Buckley’s Public Safety 2.0 initiative, The Bridge Center connects justice-involved individuals with wraparound services — including housing navigation, job training, and parenting support — to break cycles of re-incarceration. Our presence there strengthens the continuum of care for the whole family: while the Sheriff’s Office supports a parent’s reentry, Amazing Grace is there to support their children, connecting them to camp, mentorship, and year-round programming at the moment families need it most. Office hours are Tuesdays and Fridays, 10 AM to 2 PM or by appointment.
